BBC Countryfile discusses feeds with Humphrey expert Kay Johnson

Understanding sustainable feed and rising production costs

Humphrey Feeds & Pullets welcomed Countryfile presenter Tom Heap to their feed mill near Winchester this week to discuss the current challenges in the production and supply of poultry feed.

The programme, entitled ‘Harvest’, will be broadcast on BBC One on Sunday 9th October, and available on iPlayer shortly afterwards.

Feed expertise

Countryfile reports on rural, agricultural, and environmental issues affecting farming in Britain. Tom Heap visited Humphrey Feeds & Pullets to speak to our experienced Procurement & Formulations Manager, Kayleigh Johnson, about the future of sustainable animal feed and the rising costs of production.

Hosting DEFRA’s Chief Scientific Adviser

We also hosted Professor Gideon Henderson, Defra Chief Scientific Adviser, for his interview as part of the segment. The Chief Scientific Adviser provides Ministerial advice to support policy decisions, based on quality and fit-for-purpose scientific evidence. His visit to Humphrey Feeds & Pullets’ feed mill provided a good opportunity for us to talk directly to a key Government advisor.

Humphrey helps shape the future

Humphrey Feeds & Pullets has focussed on ‘Advancing Poultry Performance’ since 1932, and has always been keen to build expertise to help poultry farmers. Having recently appeared both on Radio 4’s Farming Today and BBC 1 Countryfile, members of the team are delighted that their profile is helping farmers and members of the public gain a better understanding of the issues affecting the poultry industry.

“There is only one thing we want to do with the knowledge we have gained,” says Kay, “Share it with our customers.”
