Congratulations to ‘Poultry Farmer of the Year’ St Ewe

Humphrey Feeds customer wins prestigious Farmers Weekly Award

Richard and Christine Tonks Receiving the award

We are delighted to congratulate our customer, St Ewe Free Range Eggs, who have been awarded Poultry Farmer of the Year 2022 by Farmers Weekly at their award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.

St Ewe Free Range Eggs is a multi-award-winning free-range egg producer and packer from Cornwall.  Farming for over 40 years, the business retains family values and nutrition at their core.

Educating consumers on best in practice farming methods, food provenance, a dedicated and open approach to business, and high welfare, are just some of the core values of their family focused business principles.

Despite their expansion, which saw them opening their new state-of-the-art packing centre in May this year, the business has done what it set out to do and has retained the family feel, with an emphasis on “doing the right thing”.

Poultry Farmer of the Year

This annual Farmers Weekly Award is a broad category, open to all successful egg, turkey, goose, duck or chicken meat producers, who must demonstrate ‘excellence in production, marketing and welfare.’

St Ewe’s contracted producers use feeds developed in conjunction with Humphrey Feeds & Pullets to achieve high production and bird welfare, and we have built a strong relationship with the business. Martin Humphrey of Humphrey Feeds & Pullets is responsible for formulating specialist feed for customers like St Ewe, allowing brands to achieve a degree of consistency across their egg production.

St Ewe’s Rich Yolk and Super Eggs brands were initially trialled on free-range hens at the home farm of Rebecca Tonks, the CEO of St Ewe. The eggs are now supplied to some of the country’s top restaurants and retailers.

Congratulations to St Ewe!

St Ewe Free Range Eggs joins the growing band of winners championing best practice in poultry farming, and flying the flag for the British farming industry.

Fellow customer Richard Pinfield, who has barn and free-range flocks in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, supported by Humphrey Feeds’ Poultry Specialists, was also a finalist.

“We are proud of both St Ewe and Richard’s success,” says Martin Humphrey, Sales Director at Humphrey Feeds & Pullets. “These are both strong, family-based businesses with a real focus on bird welfare and continued improving bird performance. Congratulations to both!”
